NeosVR is a free-to-play, massively multiplayer online, virtual reality application created by Frooxius and operated by Solirax. It was released for free on Microsoft Windows via Steam in 2018. The game allows users to interact with one another as avatars and features development tools for players to create in-game elements such as games and maps. It is also usable without VR in a “desktop” mode through the use of a mouse and keyboard or gamepad.
Neos VR became one of the most technically advanced social VR platforms, enabling complex scripting, procedural systems, and collaborative creation inside VR. Its cultural impact lies in fostering highly expressive identity communities, including furries, artists, and technologists. Neos pushed the boundaries of what user‑generated VR content could be, influencing expectations for creator‑driven metaverse tools. Its transition to Resonite reinforced the importance of community‑owned virtual platforms.
