Twinity is a 3D online virtual world. Initially developed by Metaversum GmbH, it is currently held by ExitReality. The game offers its population, called Twinizens, to navigate around virtual (historical) versions of real-world cities, also called a mirror world or a Metaverse.
Twinity attempted to recreate real‑world cities in 3D, pioneering the “mirror world” concept long before it became a metaverse buzzword. Its cultural impact lies in exploring how virtual spaces could reflect real geography and urban culture. Twinity influenced later digital‑twin and smart‑city simulations. It helped shape the idea that virtual worlds could serve as parallel layers of real‑world environments.
